The Zak van Zuid-Beveland is a small-scale landscape characterized by small polders and numerous inner dikes. The area has been created through numerous small land reclamations, which began in the twelfth century by the monks of St. Bavo from Ghent. From them, the name Beveland is derived. The Zak van Zuid-Beveland is a beautiful area with important nature and landscape values such as marshes, boundary linden trees, creeks, fledging hills, and small villages. Therefore, the government designated the Zak van Zuid-Beveland as a Valuable Cultural Landscape in 1994.
