It was one of the richest monasteries in Guimarães, founded in the 16th century by the Canon Master School of the Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Olive Tree, Baltasar de Andrade.
The building has a baroque façade and a statue of Santa Clara in the center. The two-story cloister is classical in style. The rich chapel was emptied in the 19th century and today some of the gilded woodwork is in the Alberto Sampaio Museum.
This building houses the Guimarães City Hall .
