La estación de metro subterránea se inauguró el 5 de julio de 1985 junto con Stuyvenbergh y Heizel para la extensión de la línea de metro 1A desde Bockstael hacia Heizel. Desde la revisión de la red de metro en 2009, esta estación es atendida por la línea de metro 6.
Houba-Brugmann se encuentra bajo la Houba de Strooperlaan en el noroeste de la ciudad, cerca del hospital universitario UVC Brugmann. A poca distancia se encuentra la terminal Stadion de las líneas de tranvía 51 y 93.
