El nombre Ligny aparece en todos los monumentos que tienen que ver con los importantes acontecimientos napoleónicos. Incluido en el Arco de Triunfo en París o en las colinas de Ajaccio. Este pequeño pueblo en la provincia de Namur fue el escenario de la última victoria de Napoleón el 16 de junio de 1815. Las batallas del 16 de junio de 1815 tuvieron lugar en el territorio de Fleurus, Balâtre, Wagnelée y Saint-Amand, pero solo el nombre Ligny ha perdurado en la historia. Y nadie sabe realmente por qué. Hoy en día, el pueblo es una sección de Sombreffe. En una granja donde también se libró una batalla, se encuentra un museo con una hermosa colección de armas, equipo militar y otros conmovedores relicarios de las luchas.
