Desde el sur hacia el norte, el Herk serpentea a través de Wellen, pasando por las zonas naturales de Broekbeemd y Grote Beemd. Estas áreas son gestionadas por Limburgs Landschap vzw con la ayuda de los voluntarios de ’t Bokje. Los nombres de las áreas ya lo revelan: puede ser húmedo allí. ‘Beemd’ significa ‘un prado de heno en un valle fluvial’. Ambas áreas albergan hermosas flores de primavera y naturaleza europea de primera calidad!
