El Karthane es un afluente izquierdo del Stepenitz en el distrito de Prignitz. Su longitud total es de 48 kilómetros y cuenta con afluentes como el Cederbach y una serie de arroyos y zanjas de pradera más pequeños. La cuenca del Karthane abarca 436,8 km².
La zona de origen del Karthane se encuentra al norte de Klein Woltersdorf en el municipio de Groß Pankow, cerca de la localidad de Seefeld, entre el Butterberg de 128 metros de altura y el Wahrberg de 120 metros de altura.
