Almazán es un municipio y villa española de la provincia de Soria, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León. Con una población de 5411 habitantes , se trata del segundo término municipal más poblado de la provincia. La localidad es atravesada por el río Duero.El topónimo deriva del árabe المحصن «el fortificado», nombre común en la toponimia árabe.[1] Según otros autores tendría origen ibero o euskérico y significaría «en el bosque». Por otro lado, Antonio Moya supone que la etimología tendría que ver con «manzano».[2]
