La estación de tren de Moulsford estaba en la ruta original del Ferrocarril Great Western, siendo una de las tres estaciones intermedias proporcionadas cuando la línea se extendió de Reading a Steventon en 1840.
El Ferrocarril Great Western fue construido y inaugurado en etapas. Se había inaugurado hasta Reading el 30 de marzo de 1840; el 1 de junio de 1840 se abrió a Steventon, con tres estaciones intermedias, la más al norte de las cuales era Wallingford Road; posiblemente se llamó originalmente Moulsford, siendo renombrada en diciembre de 1840.
