La ciudad de Verbania se encuentra en el lado oeste del Lago Maggiore en la región de Piamonte, en el norte de Italia. Es la capital de la provincia de Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. El municipio se formó en 1939 por la fusión de los antiguos municipios de Intra y Pallanza.
Verbania es el lugar industrial y comercial más grande del Lago Maggiore y desde 1992 es la capital de la provincia de Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. La ciudad de hecho existe desde 1939, cuando se unieron los lugares de Intra y Pallanza. Entre la ciudad y el Laveno opuesto se encuentra la principal conexión de barco del Lago Maggiore.
