La torre fue construida en 1550 por la cofradía de San Miguel.
Es una poderosa estructura con una forma geométrica perfecta , una base cuadrada y superficies talladas visibles, sin ventanas excepto en el lado sur. Tiene las características de una fortificación construida en Sciacca en la época de Carlos V (siglo XVI), cuando la amenaza de ataques piratas o de desembarco turco era mayor. La torre probablemente se construyó con fines de observación y luego se utilizó como campanario.
Hoy en día también es un mirador privilegiado desde el que se puede disfrutar de una panorámica de 360 grados de toda la ciudad.
