Hurwenen es una aldea situada en la orilla sur del Waal en Bommelerwaard, a pocos kilómetros al este de Zaltbommel. Hurwenen tiene 680 habitantes. Hurwenen formó parte del entonces municipio de Rossum desde 1811 hasta 1821. Desde el 1 de enero de 1818 hasta el 1 de enero de 1821, Heerewaarden también formó parte de este municipio. Desde el 1 de enero de 1821 hasta el 1 de julio de 1955, Hurwenen fue un municipio independiente. El 1 de julio de 1955, Hurwenen volvió a formar un municipio junto con Rossum. Desde el 1 de enero de 1999, Hurwenen forma parte del municipio de Maasdriel.
