Con esto, es el barrio más pequeño del distrito de Rotterdam-Norte. El barrio está delimitado por la Schiekade, la Bergweg, el Noordsingel y la Heer Bokelweg.
Donde ahora se encuentra el barrio Agniesebuurt, anteriormente estaba la polder Oost-Blommersdijk. En esta área entre el Rotte y el Schie de Róterdam, ya había algunas casas en el siglo XVIII, pero entre 1850 y 1940 se construyó completamente la polder. El Agniesebuurt lleva el nombre de la calle Agniesestraat, que se encuentra en el medio. El nombre Agniese proviene de Agniese, la única hija de Dieric Bokel. Ella se casó en 1336 con Simon van Benthem y luego con Gherijt van Herlaer. A través de sus matrimonios, la mayor parte de los bienes de su padre pasaron a otras familias.
