De 1980 a 1985, el dique marítimo del norte fue elevado a la altura del delta por la autoridad del agua Ommelanderzeedijk, siendo necesario reemplazar la antigua esclusa de 1811 por una nueva bomba de desagüe. La antigua esclusa, cerrada con ladrillos, se convirtió en 1986 en parte de un proyecto de arte terrestre, un mosaico de piedras, diseñado por J.H. van Loon. Esta obra de arte ya se puede ver desde lejos.
