Fue uno de los monasterios más ricos de Guimarães, fundado en el siglo XVI por el canónigo maestro escolar de la Colegiata de Nuestra Señora del Olivo, Baltasar de Andrade.
El edificio tiene una fachada barroca y una estatua de Santa Clara en el centro. El claustro de dos pisos es de estilo clásico. La rica capilla fue vaciada en el siglo XIX y hoy parte de la carpintería dorada se encuentra en el Museo Alberto Sampaio.
Este edificio alberga el Ayuntamiento de Guimarães .
