Ce bâtiment classique à Ruisbroek, datant du début du 19ème siècle, a été construit selon les plans de Ferdinand Berckmans. C'est un bijou d'architecture civile avec une galerie montante et des arcades en plein cintre remarquables. Depuis 1983, l'ancienne mairie est un monument protégé.
Jusqu'en 2009, le Musée De Bres était logé dans ce magnifique bâtiment. L'asbl musée De Bres a été fondée le 23 août 1976 pour garder vivante la mémoire de tout ce qui est arrivé à Ruisbroek pendant le tragique mois de janvier 1976. Après la restauration du bâtiment en 2011, la commune de Puurs (aujourd'hui Puurs-Sint-Amands) a décidé de louer le bâtiment à des particuliers.
