La nécropole de Solduno est très importante d’un point de vue scientifique et nous permet de reconstituer les us et coutumes des populations qui se sont installées sur le territoire à l’âge du fer, à l’époque romaine et à l’Antiquité tardive. Le musée archéologique installé au château Visconti de Locarno présente en permanence de nombreux objets de la nécropole de Solduno, en particulier du verre romain.
Solduno faisait partie de la Magnifica Comunità di Locarno en tant que proximité, attestée depuis 1316. Commune autonome depuis 1803, elle a fusionné en 1928 avec la commune de Locarno. Après la fusion, Solduno a d’abord été fraction, puis district.
