La vallée d'Ilse est une vallée sauvage et romantique située au sud-ouest d'Ilsenburg. L'Ilse prend sa source près du sommet du Brocken à presque 1000 mètres et s'écoule à travers un paysage rocheux bizarre vers le nord. La manière dont le chemin longe la petite rivière de montagne est l'un des sentiers de randonnée les plus pittoresques et variés des montagnes du Harz. Il est nommé d'après le célèbre poète Heinrich Heine, qui marchait autrefois le long de l'Ilse depuis la montagne Brocken jusqu'à Ilsenburg.
