Le canal s'étend de la Hoge Vaart vers le sud-est et se termine dans la forêt de Hulkestein près de la Wielse Tocht. Le canal et la bande adjacente servent de connexion écologique entre d'une part la Hoge Vaart et d'autre part la forêt de Hulkestein et la réserve naturelle voisine de Horsterwold. À une échelle plus petite, la Rassenbeektocht constitue également la connexion écologique entre deux zones naturelles bordant le canal, le Gorzenveld au nord-est près de la Gooiseweg et le Gruttoveld, qui se situe environ à mi-chemin sur le côté sud-ouest de la Rassenbeektocht. Les zones sont gérées par Het Flevolandschap.
