Il canale verso Beverlo è stato costruito in un tempo record di 3 anni. I lavori di scavo sono stati avviati nel 1854. Funziona come un diramazione del Canale Bocholt-Herentals ed è stato principalmente scavato per motivi militari. Era un canale di approvvigionamento per la guarnigione di Leopoldsburg. Successivamente è diventato anche commercialmente importante per l'industria metallica di Lommel.
Il canale termina nel bacino portuale di Leopoldsburg ed è privo di chiuse.
