Il nome Ligny appare su tutti i monumenti che hanno a che fare con i importanti eventi napoleonici. Inclusa l'Arc de Triomphe a Parigi o sulle colline di Ajaccio. Questo piccolo villaggio nella provincia di Namur fu il palcoscenico dell'ultima vittoria di Napoleone il 16 giugno 1815. I combattimenti del 16 giugno 1815 ebbero luogo sul territorio di Fleurus, Balâtre, Wagnelée e Saint-Amand, ma solo il nome Ligny è rimasto impresso nella storia. E nessuno sa davvero perché. Oggi il villaggio è una frazione di Sombreffe. In una fattoria dove si combatté è situato un museo con una bella collezione di armi, equipaggiamento militare e altre toccanti reliquie dei combattimenti.
