Si tratta di una varietà coltivata di mispelo, mantenuta per via dei suoi grandi frutti. L'aggiunta dei mispeli nella siepe, che chiudeva un precedente frutteto, ha aumentato l'utilità della siepe come chiusura aggiungendo una produzione di frutti. La mispelina veniva raccolta dopo il primo gelo, rendendo la polpa morbida e commestibile.
