Le querce che si trovano qui sono state trovate durante l'escavazione della ghiaia. Forse questi alberi crescevano circa 2000 anni fa più a monte. Facevano parte di una foresta primordiale lungo le rive della Mosa. Le parti più alte delle rive si allagavano meno frequentemente, permettendo così alle foreste di svilupparsi in boschi di decidue con imponenti querce. A causa della forza dell'acqua, il fiume ha spostato più volte il suo letto e ha inghiottito così parti della foresta. Gli alberi sono stati trascinati nella corrente e sono stati trasportati sulle rive, dove sono stati sepolti sotto ghiaia, sabbia e argilla. Così sono rimasti conservati per tutti quegli anni.
