Il castello rinforzato di Écaussinnes è un gioiello medievale. Si trovava in una posizione strategica in corrispondenza di un guado lungo la Sennette, che separava la contea di Fiandre e il ducato di Brabante. Fu costruito nel XII secolo su un promontorio roccioso della formazione calcarea di Lalaing (LAL). Come possiamo vedere nella foto, questa pietra calcarea ha una struttura a scaglie, è argillosa e ricca di fossili.
