Bredeney è un quartiere meridionale della città di Essen. I quartieri adiacenti sono a sud Fischlaken e Werden, a ovest Schuir e Haarzopf, a nord Margarethenhöhe, Rüttenscheid e Stadtwald, e a est Heisingen.
La prima menzione di Bredeney si trova in occasione dell'inaugurazione di una chiesa a Werden il 10 novembre 875. Nell'anno 1036, il abate Gerold fece costruire una cappella a Bredeney in onore della Santissima Trinità. Adolf von der Mark costruì nel 1226 la casa Baldeney, oggi conosciuta come castello di Baldeney.
