Wolfhagen è una piccola città con un centro storico a graticcio nel distretto di Kassel in Assia settentrionale. Dal 21 febbraio 2019 porta il soprannome di "Hans-Staden-Stadt".
Wolfhagen si trova in Assia settentrionale, nell'estremità occidentale del Parco Naturale Habichtswald, a est della Foresta Lunga. A est della città si trova l'Ofenberg, oltre il quale si erge l'Isthaberg. In direzione ovest-sudovest, il terreno sale dolcemente verso il Stöckeberg e verso sud verso il Graner Berg. La città si trova presso il Mühlenwasser, un affluente dell'Erpe, che attraversa il centro città a nord-est; nel Mühlenwasser sfociano i torrenti Duse e Limeckebach a Wolfhagen.
