Brunkau fa parte della località Windberge ed è una frazione della città di Tangerhütte e un villaggio nell'Altmark, in Sassonia-Anhalt.
Brunkau si trova a nord dell'Altopiano di Colbitz-Letzlinger, a ovest della strada federale 189. La strada provinciale 1187 attraversa il paese in direzione di Ottersburg. A ovest del villaggio si trovano le sorgenti di Tanger, da cui scorre il piccolo corso d'acqua Bäke, che poi confluisce nel Tanger. Una grande pietra contrassegnata nelle vicinanze delle sorgenti di Tanger lo indica. A sud del villaggio si estendono vaste foreste. Attraverso Brunkau passa il percorso circolare dell'Altmark.
