Il distretto di Eichstätt è il distretto più settentrionale della regione amministrativa dell'Alta Baviera e appartiene alla regione di pianificazione di Ingolstadt.
L'area del distretto di Eichstätt comprende essenzialmente l'Alb di Eichstätt nell'Alta Franconia meridionale, con l'area centrale della valle dell'Altmühl. L'Altmühl raggiunge a ovest Solnhofen il territorio del distretto, lo attraversa poi in direzione est, in seguito nord-est e lo lascia a est di Beilngries. Nell'estremo sud sfiora il Danubio, mentre a nord-est il canale Reno-Danubio tocca brevemente il territorio del distretto. Pertanto, il distretto di Eichstätt è l'unico della Alta Baviera che si trova in gran parte o quasi esclusivamente a nord del Danubio. Nel distretto si trova, vicino al mercato di Kipfenberg, il centro geografico dello stato libero della Baviera.
