Planpraz è un altopiano situato ad un'altitudine di circa 2.000 m su una pianura delle Aiguilles Rouges che costituiscono il versante occidentale della valle di Chamonix.
È collegata a Chamonix tramite una gondola. In origine era una funivia, trasportata da piloni di cemento, e inaugurata nel 1920. Nel 1979 è stata trasformata in cabinovia mantenendo i piloni originali.
