Questo canale è stato scavato intorno al 1930 per creare un necessario collegamento est-ovest tra la Vecht e Hilversum. Faceva parte di un ampio piano di apertura per questa regione, che comprendeva anche la costruzione della strada provinciale che corre parallelamente al canale. Questo piano fu progettato dal direttore generale della Rijkswaterstaat Anton Mussert, che sarebbe stato licenziato dal Ministero nel 1934 a causa delle sue attività con il NSB. Grazie ai suoi progetti la regione è diventata molto più accessibile, il che ha avuto un effetto positivo sullo sviluppo economico.
