Il pompaggio Loppersum si trova alla fine dei Lopster Wijmers e all'inizio del Westeremdermaar, direttamente accanto alla N996. Il pompaggio e la chiusa adiacente sono stati costruiti nel 1991 per compensare l'aumento relativo del livello dell'acqua a causa del cedimento del suolo dovuto all'estrazione di gas naturale.
Il pompaggio drena l'area che si trova grosso modo tra la Eemshavenweg, la Delleweg, la linea ferroviaria e il viale di Garsthuizen verso Loppersum.
