Il tunnel Benelux è un collegamento sottomarino lungo 1300 metri sotto il Nieuwe Maas a Rotterdam e Schiedam per veicoli a motore, ciclisti e la metro di Rotterdam. Esso è composto da più tubi tunnel che collegano Vlaardingen e Schiedam con Hoogvliet. Negli anni '60 c'era un grande bisogno di ulteriori collegamenti costieri oltre al tunnel della Maas e ai vari traghetti, che ha portato alla cintura attorno a Rotterdam. L'attraversamento orientale del Maas è stato servito dal ponte Van Brienenoord dal 1964 e quello occidentale dal primo tunnel Benelux dal 1967.
