L'imponente Casa dos Carvalhos o Casa dos Mota Prego è una dimora signorile che trae origine da una prima torre costruita nel Medioevo , elemento importante e comune a quel tempo.
A metà del XVI secolo, Gaspar de Carvalho, cancelliere del re João III , apportò dei miglioramenti all'edificio. Solo all'inizio del XVIII secolo fu costruita la facciata principale della casa. L'edificio fu ristrutturato l'ultima volta tra la fine del XVIII e l'inizio del XIX secolo.
