Beeldhouwer Valeer Peirsman creëerde de beeldengroep in opdracht van Toerisme Temse en het gemeentebestuur. Drie van de vier beelden zijn gebaseerd op authentiek kaailopers: den Bruine (Alfons Gosselin), uiterst links; de Mekker (Désiré Aelbrecht), 2de van links; en de Schele Wringer (Frans Vervynckt), uiterst rechts. De 4de kaailoper, tweede van rechts, staat symbool voor alle kaailopers. Het monument biedt ruimte voor toeristen om zich in dit gezelschap te laten fotograferen. De beeldengroep werd officieel onthuld op 25 mei 1991.
