Description by the author

Landvoogdes Maria van Hongarije, de zuster van keizer Karel V, liet in 1542 een nieuwe versterkte stad bouwen: Mariembourg. Ze kreeg ook haar naam. Mariembourg had de reputatie onneembaar te zijn, maar reeds in 1554 nam de Franse koning Hendrik II haar in, waardoor Karel V genoodzaakt werd zich een nieuwe vesting te bouwen. Dat zou Philippeville worden. Mer deze fietstocht ontdek je deze twee historische steden (stadjes). En je kan ook nog genieten van een prachtige RAVeL.
