Governor Marie of Hungary, sister of Emperor Charles V, built a new fortified city in 1542: Mariembourg. It also got its name. Mariembourg had the reputation of being impregnable, but already in 1554, the French King Henry II took it, forcing Charles V to build a new fortress. That would be Philippeville. With this bike tour you will discover these two historic cities (cities). And you can also enjoy a beautiful RAVeL.
