De wijk Oberthal is de naamgevende wijk van de gemeente Oberthal in de Landkreis St. Wendel in Saarland en vormt een eigen gemeentelijk district.
De wijk Oberthal is ontstaan uit de voormalige zelfstandige dorpen Imweiler, Osenbach en Linden. Met de verordening van 22 september 1823 werd op 1 oktober 1823 de officiële naam "Oberthal" vastgesteld. De plaats maakte van ongeveer 1200 tot 1766 deel uit van het hertogdom Lotharingen, dat in 1766 door erfopvolging aan het Koninkrijk Frankrijk viel. Bij verdrag van 15 november 1786 sloot het Koninkrijk Frankrijk dit gebied af aan het hertogdom Pfalz-Zweibrücken. Gedurende de Franse overheersing vormde Oberthal een eigen Marie.
