Het maakt deel uit van het bezit van de Deutsche Bahn AG en werd gebouwd bij de Dortmund-Soester Eisenbahn. Het station had vooral een belangrijke functie als goederenstation voor mijnen en ijzergieterijen. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd het oude stationsgebouw grotendeels verwoest en in 1955 vervangen door een functioneel gebouw. Het goederenvervoer gebruikt de spoorlijnen sinds 2002 alleen nog als doorgaande verbinding, echter meerdere keren per dag. Het station wordt overspannen door de Hörder Brücke, die als voetgangersbrug dienstdoet.
