Haardorf ligt ten zuidwesten van de stad Osterfeld en ten oosten van Goldschau in een landbouwintensief gebied aan de landweg 190.
Een statistische enquête in opdracht van hertog August van Saksen-Weißenfels uit 1663 bevestigde voor Haardorf een inwoneraantal van 56 personen, die verdeeld leefden over 12 boerderijen en een bebouwd tuingrondstuk. Tot in de 18e eeuw steeg het aantal percelen tot 20. In 1852 bedroeg het aantal inwoners 148 personen en zou tot 1905 stijgen naar 440, voordat het tot 1971 afnam tot 351 personen.
