Boven de Eifelgemeente Monreal rijst in het Elzbachtal op een 350 m boven NHN hoge bergspoor de naburige ruïnes van de Löwenburg, ook wel bekend als de Burg Monreal, en de Philippsburg. Laatstgenoemde wordt in de volksmond ook wel "het Rech" genoemd.
De sporenburcht werd in 1229 voor het eerst schriftelijk vermeld. Als haar bouwer wordt graaf Hermann III. van Virneburg beschouwd, die de constructie pikant genoeg bouwde op het grondgebied van zijn broeder Philipp op basis van een delingscontract. De daaruit voortvloeiende broederstrijd werd echter later in een schikking opgelost, waardoor Philipp zijn rechten op de regio aan zijn broer afstond.
