Jean-Baptiste André Godin (1817-1888), de oprichter van de fabriek van de beroemde Godin kachels, bedacht een maatschappij voor zijn arbeiders met dezelfde levensomstandigheden als "de rijken". Tijdens de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw bouwde hij de Familistère of 'Sociaal Paleis'. U kunt de Familistère ontdekken via het museum ter plaatse, de modelwoning, het erf van de woonpaviljoens, de siertuin, het huis van de huismeester, het theater van de Familistère en het zwembad-washok.
