De Arabieren bouwden een fontein bij een waterbron, in het gehucht Alqamah dat al in 1154 werd beschreven.
Een sterke aardbeving, die plaatsvond aan het einde van de 14e eeuw, lijkt de fontein te hebben beschadigd, die vervolgens werd herbouwd. Met de overdracht van het stadsleven rond het kasteel ontstond er een activiteit van het hoeden van schapen rond de fontein, waardoor de noodzaak ontstond om een drinkbak te bouwen. De gevel heeft twee wastafels, twee waterafvoeren (cannoli) en pilasters met daarboven kapitelen. De trog, gemaakt van travertinoïde calcarenietsteenstenen, werd gebouwd in de eerste helft van de 19e eeuw.
