In de middeleeuwen was er een heerschappij te Born, een Heinrich van Born werd in 1286 benoemd. De familie liet de voorganger van het huidige kasteel bouwen. Het werd in 1705 verwoest tijdens aanvallen van het leger van de hertog van Marlborough.
Omstreeks 1740 werd het huidige kasteel gebouwd door de familie Faust van Aschaffenburg-Hattstein. In 1775 erfde het de familie De Villers. In 1978 kocht de gemeente het kasteel en in 1985 werd het weer verkocht.
