Aardenburg, onstaan als een Romeins-keizerlijke stichting, bestaat bijna tweeduizend jaar. Er was een groot fort voor duizend soldaten met in de onmiddellijke nabijheid een dorpje, waar bakkers, slagers en kooplui woonden samen met de families van de soldaten. In de middeleeuwen was Aardenburg een forse, bedrijvige en rumoerige Vlaamse havenstad. In het straandbeeld: muurschilderingen met historische taferelen, een mijlpaal, mozaïeken, sierlijke uithangborden... Onderweg komt u ongetwijfeld een maquette van het Romeinse fort tegen en het Romeinse poortgebouw dat op dezelfde plaats staat waar het bijna tweeduizend jaar geleden werd gebouwd. Bijzonder is ook de gedichtenommegang met 20 Latijnse gedichten van beroemde Romeinse auteurs (met Nederlandse vertaling).
