Beesel werd in september 2014 uitgeroepen tot Groenste Dorp van Nederland. De jury roemde Beesel als dorp met een uitzonderlijk fraai landschap. Het buitengebied bevat veel zeldzame natuur. Een dicht netwerk van recreatieve paden maakt van de gemeente een groene parel. Beesel is dan ook ideaal om te wanden en te fietsen. Ook het buitenland, met onder meer het Brachterwald en het stadje Bru¨geen is comfortabel dichtbij.
