Kommerzijl , tot eind 17e eeuw Opslachterzijl genoemd, is een dijkdorp in de gemeente Westerkwartier in de Nederlandse provincie Groningen, gelegen aan de Kommerzijlsterdiep, dat na het dorp verdergaat als Kommerzijlsterriet en uitmondt in het Reitdiep. Ten westen van het dorp ligt de Ruigewaard en ten oosten het Humsterland. Kommerzijl heeft 505 inwoners . De Groningse scheldnaam voor de inwoners is Spierens , mogelijk omdat ze vroeger erg mager werden bevonden.
