Net ten noorden van autosnelweg A12 en doorsneden door de spoorlijn Utrecht – Arnhem ligt het landgoed Rijnwijck. Door de geïsoleerde ligging niet zo bekend en weinig bezocht. De buitenplaats werd aan het begin van de 17e eeuw gebouwd en in 1867 alweer gesloopt. Wat er nog van rest zijn restanten van de slotgracht die het eiland omsloten waarop het huis heeft gestaan.
Essenhakhout is kenmerkend voor het gebied langs de Kromme Rijn zo ook op het Landgoed Rijnwijck. Het sterke essenhout is zeer geschikt voor het maken van stelen voor gereedschap.
