Esta estación fue puesta en funcionamiento el día que se inauguró la línea de tren entre Barcelona y Mataró el 28 de octubre de 1.848. Hay una estatua que rememora este hecho con un monumento dedicado a Miquel Biada, el promotor de la línea, y se encuentra delante mismo de la estación.
