Southampton és una ciutat del sud d'Anglaterra amb un dels ports comercials més importants del Regne Unit. És a mig camí entre Portsmouth i Bournemouth, i és coneguda per ser el port d'on va salpar el Titanic en el seu viatge inaugural. La ciutat té una prestigiosa universitat, la Universitat de Southampton. La major part del seu centre històric fou destruït pels bombardejos alemanys durant la segona guerra mundial.
El municipi està a l'extrem nord d'un estuari que porta el mateix nom, estuari de Southampton, on els rius Test i Itchen conflueixen poc abans que es trobin amb el riu Hamble, al sud de la ciutat.
