La final es disputà per segona vegada consecutiva per Argentina i Alemanya, poc abans de la Reunificació alemanya . Aquesta vegada guanyaren els europeus per 1-0 gràcies a un penal convertit per Andreas Brehme en el minut 86 de joc.
