L'Església de Paulus va ser construïda al segle XVI per Dom Bartolomeu dos Màrtirs per a la Companyia de Jesús al Seminari de Santiago.
L'església forma part de l'edifici que acull el Museu Pius XII .
La façana és més aviat senzilla i austera, rematada per un frontó triangular amb finestra circular. L´església té una sola porta d´entrada, emmarcada per columnes als costats i un frontó a sobre. Va ser dissenyada per André Soares. En contrast amb la façana, l'interior és impressionant i està considerat com la millor col·lecció d'art barroc de la ciutat durant els regnats de João Pedro II i V.
Té una sola nau amb un cor molt ampli. Hi ha diverses obres exposades, la més important de les quals és de Tom Araújo . També hi ha estàtues dels quatre evangelistes (obra d'António Pinto Araújo).
